6.7 Larson - New Zealand

New Zealand: Where All Your Vacation Dreams Come True
New Zealand is at the top of my travel list, because there is so much to do and see. NZ is the perfect blend of culture and breathtaking outdoor adventures. While the flight to Auckland is long and daunting, what awaits is worth the 21 hours of flying.

This spectacular landscape is split into the North and South islands. Both islands are known for their pure lakes, lustrous forests and high planes.

Kokatahi, New Zealand
North Island
The North island is known for, “Active volcanoes, island sanctuaries and history top the list when visiting New Zealand's North Island.” (https://www.newzealand.com/int/north-island/

South Island
The South Island is known for, “South Island in New Zealand hosts the purest natural landscapes you’ll ever experience.” (https://www.newzealand.com/ca/feature/11-must-do-kiwi-experiences-in-the-south-island/) The Southern Alps are bigger than the European Alps, with unbelievable fiords and glaciers.

Seasons
NZ hosts four seasons. Summer starts in December and lasts until February or March. Fall goes from March until May or June. Winter spans from June to September or October. Spring lasts from October to December. However, these are maritime seasons, meaning their weather is also affected by the sea.

Micro-Climates
According to New Zealand Geography and Climate, “New Zealand also has a large variety of micro-climates which are variations of the temperate climate. These variations are pronounced and the result of mountainous that run up the spine of both islands with westerly winds depositing moisture on the west of both islands leaving drier lands to the east. The north of New Zealand is frost free making it suitable for growing some tropical fruit while on the South Island, there exist large areas of perpetual snow and glaciers within the Southern Alps.” (https://www.campervan-hire-new-zealand.com/new-zealand-geography-and-climate/)

Terrain
New Zealand has it all, beautiful beaches, rocky terrains and hot springs. (To learn more visit https://www.campervan-hire-new-zealand.com/new-zealand-geography-and-climate/).

  • Ocean
    • Mountains and River
    • New Zealand rides the south-west Pacific Ocean, along the junction between between the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates.
  • Mountains
    • Mountains ranges are visible on the North and South islands.
  • Volcano
    • There are many active volcanoes on the North island and in the sea.
  • Desert
  • Forests
    • 29% of NZ is covered by lush forests.

Why would you want to vacation anywhere else, when you can spend days in  the culturally rich Wellington, capital of New Zealand, tour the Lord of the Rings set in Hamilton and hike the Southern Alps? All of this and so much more awaits you in New Zealand.

  1. Your headline is enticing and caused me to want to read your blog. You mentioned New Zealand has a"perfect blend of culture and breathtaking outdoor adventures" but there is no additional information about these topics until the end of the post.

I appreciate the information on the terrain and seasons, which would help me decide when to go on vacation.

The images you chose make me think it is a good location for someone who likes the outdoors. The list you includes support this theme.

  2. I like how you described the natural landscape in such detail, but I hoped you would include some of the things I could do at the different locations by showing examples. I liked the use of the bulleted list for the terrain information. I'm a huge Lord of the Rings fan so New Zealand is certainly on my radar as well!
