The day I received an urgent teleconference invitation with
my team leaders to discuss the future of my department was a day that changed
the direction of my career forever.
My department was a support unit to another department of a
Fortune 100 company and we had just acquired a new leader. This new leader
changed the direction of my department’s goals and notified myself and
forty-nine other investigators that our position had been eliminated.
This news caused great uncertainty in my life because I was
forced to remain at my company for six months in order to obtain my severance
package, and after 17 years with the company, it was a lucrative package. I
remember going for a walk to think about the news. While I was walking, I heard
a small voice say, “Wait and pray”.
I had deep faith that everything in life happens for a
reason and the master creator had a better plan for my life.
Once I formally started my job search in January 2017, I was
confident that I would obtain a job in my field. But after eight months of
researching, applying, and interviewing for investigator roles without a job
offer, I decided to take classes that could better my side business. My path
led me to the doors of Chippewa Valley Technical College.
My initial thought was to take a couple of classes to learn
something that could grow my business, but after my first semester I knew I
wanted to be a full-time student and change my career field to marketing.
One day walking to class, I heard that small voice say,
“give Me two years” and I said okay. Not sure what I was saying okay for, but I
thought I could do anything for two years. What I would not know how much would
have changed in those two years.
In addition to marketing, I enrolled in the digital
marketing program at CVTC, closed and sold my side business, ended an annual large
scale charity fundraising event, and am about to graduate with two
associates of applied science degrees and two certifications in social media.
I now am about to embark on a new journey. I am so grateful
for the opportunities I have received since that fateful day. I will enter this
next stage with hope and expectation that something good is going to happen to
me.
